Ukraine has attacked the Russian Kazan Aircraft Production Association (KAPO) using long-range kamikaze drones.

Multiple explosions rang out overnight in the city of Kazan in Russia’s Tartarstan republic last night and a large fire was ablaze following the successful drone attack.

The explosions and fires happened in the Aviastroitelny district of the city, targeting the Kazan KAPO plant at 3.30am UK time.

Russian media channels reported that drone attacked the nearby Borisoglebskoye airfield where there were fuel storage tanks.

Russian media reported that no damage was caused during the Ukrainian attack and all drones were shot down.

The aircraft plant produces Russian Tu-22M3 and Tu-160 strategic bombers which are essential for Moscow’s defence sector.

Defence Express reported that Russia is lacking the capacity to build new strategic bombers and the Kremlin is heavily reliant on Soviet-era “stockpiles” which have been dormant for many decades.
