Marston’s cheers a cracking Christmas

Marston’s the pub group has cheered a bumper Christmas as they had a “solid” quarter as demand remained strong.

In the sixteen weeks to 18 January the total retail sales across the group grew by 3% and like-for-like sale was 2% higher in the period after strong Christmas period.

The five main trading days from Christmas Eve through to New Year’s Day saw sales soar by 11%.

Marston’s said that “strong sales” over the period helped despite “poor weather conditions in November and January.

Chief executive Justin Platt said, “I am pleased to report a solid first-quarter performance for Marston’s, with a particularly strong key festive trading period, achieving record sales on Christmas Day.

“We are excited for the year ahead as we build on this performance through the successful execution of our refocused strategy, driving revenue growth through event-driven marketing and the rollout of our differentiated pub formats.”
