Kyiv warns Slovakia is funding Putin’s war in which is a ‘big security issue’ for Europe

President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that the Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico is funding Vladimir Putin’s war which is a “big security issue” for Europe.

On Monday Fico met with Putin in Moscow to discuss the transit of cheap Russian gas running through Ukraine which threatens Slovakia’s energy.

Zelensky blasted Fico asking, “Why is this leader so dependent on Moscow? What is being paid to him, and what does he pay with?

It is worth noting that after their meeting in Moscow, Fico and Putin did not issue joint statements or respond to media questions.

“They simply cannot say publicly anything about what they discussed in the meeting. They are afraid of the public’s reaction.”

Zelensky said that Moscow is providing the pro-Putin Slovakian leader with discounts which is being financed “through sovereignty or murky schemes.”

The Kyiv Independent reported, the Ukrainian leader said that Fico is wanting to “assist Russia in pushing American gas and energy resources of other partners away from Europe, implying that he wants to help Putin earn money to fund the war and weaken Europe.”

We are losing people as a result of the war that Putin started, and we believe that such assistance to Putin is immoral,” Zelensky added.

The European Union has said that they “are prepared” for Kyiv to stop the flow of gas transiting through Ukraine to Hungary and Slovakia, despite Robert Fico warning of “serious conflict.”

From the 1 January 2025 Ukraine will stop the flow of cheap Russian gas as President Volodymyr Zelensky will not allow Vladimir Putin “to earn additional billions on our blood.”

Fico said it is “unacceptable” that President Zelensky is threatening the production of electricity for their nuclear power plants in Slovakia.

The European Union has said that they have no comment on the Slovakian Prime Minister’s visit to Moscow.

A representative of the Commission said, “In relation to the issue of PM Fico’s visit to Moscow, we have no comment.

“However, we would like to recall the following facts, attributable on the record to a Commission Spokesperson: The stop of flow via Ukraine on 1 January is the expected situation and the EU is prepared for it.”

Fico warned on Friday, “If Zelenskyy does not let our gas through, a serious conflict could arise. Why should it only go from us there? Why can’t there be some kind of solidarity towards us?”

During the meeting with Putin Fico said, “With such positions, (Zelensky) is financially damaging Slovakia and threatening the production of electricity in nuclear power plants in Slovakia, which is unacceptable.”
