The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that Europe and Ukraine must unite as Vladimir Putin “can field 1.5 million servicemen.”
Ukraine’s armed forces have more than 800,000, France has 200,000 and the UK has virtually no army at all amid successive governments cutting troop numbers.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, “Russia can field 1.5 million servicemen. Our armed forces have more than 800,000 people.
“France is second with more than 200,000. Then Germany, Italy and the UK. All the others have fewer. This is not a situation where one country can defend itself alone. It is necessary that we all unite and mean something.”
He added to leaders that “battles involving North Korean soldiers are now taking place in places geographically closer to Davos than to Pyongyang.

He said that Russia’s economic potential is smaller than Europe’s, however Moscow is able to produce more military equipment and munitions than the whole of Europe.
President Zelensky said, “Putin has signed a new strategic agreement with Iran. He already has a pact with North Korea. Who are they making these deals against?
“Against you, against all of us. Against Europe, against America. We must not forget that. This is not an accident.
“These are their strategic priorities, and our priorities must meet this challenge in politics, defense, and economics. We can only counter such threats together.”
Zelensky said that Europe cannot not afford to be second or third behind their allies, they must fight for first place in priorities.
He said, “Europe cannot afford to be second or third in line behind its allies. If this happens, the world will start moving forward without Europe, and such a world will not be comfortable or beneficial for Europeans.
“Europe needs to fight for the first place in priorities, alliances and technological development. We are at another turning point, which some consider a problem for Europe, while others consider a chance. Europe must establish itself as a strong global player.”
He added, “During the war, everyone is worried – will the United States stay with them? Every ally is worried about this. But is anyone in the United States worried that Europe might one day abandon them – cease to be their ally?
“The answer is no. Washington does not believe that Europe can bring them something really important.”
