Storm Darragh will hit large parts of the UK with strong winds and heavy rain from Friday into Saturday.

The main feature of Storm Darragh will be heavy rainfall which is expected in northern and western parts of the UK and on high ground snow fall is expected in areas above 200m.

Forecasters are warning of “very strong winds and heavy rain” with gusts up to 80mph on Friday evening into Saturday.

There is a risk of power cuts and the amber warning is in place for “potentially damaging” winds between 3am and 9pm on Saturday.

Jason Kelly, Met Office Chief Forecaster said, “Storm Darragh is an evolving system and will bring several hazards, including wind gusts of up to 70-80mph around western coasts, especially from Devon and Cornwall to southwest Scotland and Northern Ireland.

“Wind speeds in inland areas will be slightly reduced with maximum gusts expected to reach 60-70mph.”

On Sunday a series of yellow weather warnings will remain in place and there is an Amber weather warning for wind.
